Porto Rotondo, 27th June 2020. On occasion of the XVI Bailli de Suffren trophy, at the jetties of the Marina di Porto Rotondo, the wonderful yachts, gathered and laid on the Clubhouse right, were admired by many tourists and curious people who invaded the dock to observe them closely. Extraordinary boats partecipated in the event, such as 'Mariska', guff cutter dated 1908, 15 metres long, designed by the brilliant William Life. At the jetty, ladies of the sea recreated an atmosphere from another time. The smallest details on board-from the blocks to the particular finishes-told decades of navigations and were proof of the owners' passions. The owners, with accurate restorations and constant maintenance, contribute to keep their beauty unaltered.
The best twelve models of classic and vintage boats, full of charm and history, were welcomed at the dock by the President of the Club, Mr. Roberto Azzi and by the Sporting Director Nanni Ono.
Facilitated by the cool wind from the North-West, the ships arrived in Porto Rotondo a day early. The crews took advantages of this opportunity to relax and make the fixing of the possible damages occured during the crossing of the 193 miles that separate Sain-Tropez from Porto Rotondo, sailing across the sea of Corsica and the dangerous Bocche di Bonifacio. In the evening, the President of the Marenostrum Racing Club, Christian Benoit, creator and Jean André Cherbonel, were welcomed together with the crews by Honorary President Luigi Donà dalle Rose at the headquaters of YCPR. During the gala dinner, the prizegiving of the Coppa dei Quatro Mori occured. The winners were Stiren (Classiques), Mariska (Epoques) and Xantus (Spirti of Tradition).
The following morning Porto Rotondo greeted the fleet of Bailli, ready to raise anchor fro Trapani. The fleet presented precisely at the starting line, between the breakwater dock, in front of the Club, and a buoy near the little isle of Portisco. At the time of departure, from the South-East, a lively breeze allowed the ships to head out to sea towards Sicily. After the ritual greetings, the ship of the jury left in the dock, too, chases the rest of the fleet.
